good morning everyone students if you can please change your names with your school name first and then your first and last name please I don't know how this should be the three dots in your square and it should say like change name or rename I'm pretty sure that's only for the host is Julia Hey listen to K from Pomona High School can a student try to rename themselves and I think I switched it I don't know trying to see if you can yes I like to know yay so if you guys can put your your school Dash and then your first name and last name that be great or just a dash hair school in front of your name sorry mrs. Harper do you want to take us off sure everybody welcome welcome we are so happy to have you on this is Harper on the principal here from one alive and we are an amazing school and we are super excited to have you with us today I know things have been a bit strange this year with online and everything we're revving up we're ready to have you join us as our future graduating class of 2025 is that amazing 20-25 so we hope you have a great time we're going to try to make this fun before covid-19 would have all been here and you would have seen all the stuff in the chair and the football and you would have been here to visit the classrooms it's really fun so we're taking something that really you do we have in person and we want to make it is engaging in fun for you as we can so you really get a feel of what an awesome Place Pomona High is and how much we're looking forward to having you join us so I'm going to head it back to our are counselors cuz we really want to make you feel like a little high is your home so we're excited we're glad to be here and we really want you to participate today so welcome welcome thank you thank you for being here thank you so much mrs. Harper all right will welcome you to read Devil's I miss you Nita I will be your counselor next year super excited to meet you I super excited to get to know you guys even though I'm not your counselor right now I am going to have all of my contact info at some point during the presentation you'll get that information as well if you have any questions about your freshman year on anything that we can see free will take care of these are rphs counselors we have Miss Brooks is going to be the sophomore counselor next year Mr ocram who's going to be our Juniors and Miss fasting who's going to be our senior counselor for and so the great thing about PHS. I'll be your freshman counselor I'm the Freshman comes all the time but then when you move on you'll have that same counselor until you graduate high school so what's really important for you guys to know is that middle school is nothing like your freshman year nothing likes to high school at all there are graduation requirements you guys need to fulfill in order to graduate from PHS now in order to do that you need to complete all of the course requirements are on the screen right now and you have to earn 220 credits total in order to graduate successfully and so in order to grab me so we can't have anything lower than a d n e s grades will need to be made up during summer school this is a sample of what your freshman year schedule will look like all freshmen have the same core classes so you'll all be taking English math biology PE freshman health and Tech and then you get one elective of your choice and to like I said you must get a deer better in order to receive credit and pass the force but if you are wanting to fulfill your age and I want all of your a through G so that you are college prepared by the time you graduate then we can't get anything lower than a seat any class with an F for a grade needs to be retaken so that we can get somewhere we can get credits for that class there's a question in the chatmas Unica maybe if you want to answer this it says is there a requirement needed to get an elective so we can go through a little bit later we do have elective like for music where it if you want to be in Aspen Pacific music class as an elective you will need to get teacher approval for that but typically the electives will you just kind of fall into them so we can you will either request like Spanish or Arts are the only ones that require a teacher pool will be a music a specific music and then Miss Jamaica can you go back to the Freshman schedule there you go so that way there's another question there's only an opportunity to take two electives if you take summer school essentially but again mizuna is provided that typically are freshmen take one elective course yeah so because they're so many core classes that you need to take one elective is typically what happens you will have summer school this summer available to you where you can take an elective course and then as you go through high school so you only have two years of PE so like your junior year you won't have a PE course if you passed your first two years of and then you have the opportunity to take more electives your junior year and your senior year if you want to take as many electives as possible that my number one tip is don't fail anything so we don't have to retake anyting all right we're going to move on any questions you can leave them in the chat we can I can check on them later or you can email me this is just to let you all know that we also have advanced placement courses at PHS and so with advanced placement gives you college credits really boost your GPA when you're trying to get into a four-year College After High School Miss Monroe you want to take it from here hi guys I miss Monroy I am the Career Tech here at Pomona High School so there's a lot of things and cool things that you can access at the career center this is where you're going to come text Lee if you have an appointment or you need to speak to your counselors they all the counselors are here their offices are in the career center we do College and Career Readiness for you guys and fortunately due to the cove we don't do it in person but we do offer presentations virtually we call in colleges the do trade trade schools career career we host all kinds of great presentations for you guys to come and you can join and just get ready for when you're a senior and you have all these great options we when you become a senior we do have financial aid information are you the fast but it's the federal student aid we have a lot of great resources 16 to 18 years of age you can come and request information for work permit scholarship opportunities for you when you're on campus when you guys are come on campus we do have access to printing so at home if you guys don't have an access to a printer you guys are more than welcome to come in and print you need we do have military information for you guys and it's just a great space to come and just get information for you guys when you're ready to move on to the next steps after after high school and check out the a career center virtual classroom it's pretty cool you can click anything on there and get great Sanchez I am a teacher on assignment here at Pomona High School I used to teach mathematics and I juice a change in the AVID program I'm am also a graduate of Pomona High School so I've been in the shoes that you are all about to walk into so I can help and literally almost anything that you can imagine and here I work with Avid with mathematics I work with the social media and website aspect and a lot of the testing so that's a list of things that you may not be looking forward to but it is a necessary thing but yeah thank you so much mr. Sanchez I really think it's a great job that are counselors are helping that helping everybody participate in the meeting today also I really enjoy the questions I know mr. Sanchez was trying to answer the questions as we see the if we don't get your question Miss Unico will be will be answering those at the end of the presentation but keep putting your questions that you have in the charge and will answer them as we get to it okay thank you so very much again thank you so alright let's move on hold on one second all right Miss Morales Vargas you want to give us some info about David and Arc academic group sure welcome everyone the next latest Arsenal so I can do if you go back I'll speak to it so some of the groups that you can you can be a part of academically is CSF California scholarship Federation and I know Murphy can speak to that cuz he is our advisor but that's an opportunity for you to learn different types of awards and scholarships and Trust academic awareness and then we have David which Miss Morales Hargis is going to talk about up or down in price prospects are also some groups that will help you be successful while you're in high school and then transition on to Olive and they are working with our college is Cal Poly Mount Sac and they will help you to get to College awesome thank you Doctor k all right again welcome everyone advancement via individual determination so the whole idea is that if you if college is part of your dream if pursuing a college career pathway or just you know pursuing a higher education than Avid is a pert is a college preparatory program that prepare students for whatever pathway do you want to go into that be we have to have gone to military Community College they've gone into vocational colleges and a lot of them have gone directly into four-year Institution private-public in-state out-of-state mr. Sanchez is a product of Pomona High School but also of evidence and we're very excited as we see students going into their career and the continued relationships as well this morning ahead of former student that called me and said that he was admitted into i-82 you to pursue his master's with a $60,000 scholarship so we're very excited to can need us to replace chips for secondary and continue to hear about the many successive that our students achieve more than anything what we're looking for it or students who have the desire to arrived at have the desire of 262 pursue there yet you know students that value their education and we also are looking for students that are really mean to get a willing to be challenged you want to be challenged do you want to go into honors and AP classes you want to prepare yourself for College and Career and so a lot of the benefits if you click on benefits your quickness Dad dislike dislike will be shared with you so that you can click on these that we've partnered up with he's purchasing universities come into Revit senior classes and conduct application workshops and they waived the application fee so I don't have to pay they also have some of the institutions have specific Avid scholarships as well and Hope International at Miss 100% of her average students and they come in and again what shopping you know it's just the newsletter will it will show you if the consistency in the AVID program change so we could go back to the flight did you know Elsa Mendoza what's the minimum age to get a scholarship that they have scholarships available for elementary so there are Middle School you can apply for scholarships as well so those are things that we do in the app how to apply the link is embedded in the word application so if you states have an avid program I have a Biblical about horses that we are and have National demonstration site so all that says is that we work extra hard to make sure that you know our program is not just you know doing really well but also it has the sky and everyone pretty much here in the team by team here is part of our our site team as well here you have some testimonials of swallowing throat what did between the career center and our AVID program but also the students that everything that came on campus and she just you know when she was just so impressed by the work that we were doing teachers so I'll probably be the other teachers or somebody you are really looking forward to having all you guys here I can't wait for you guys to get here so just make sure you work hard grind hustle get through your eighth-grade year and then hopefully once you guys come up when high school things will be a little more normal and we can have you guys join club we can have cuz that's a piece of advice or Bethany number to everybody High School way more fun when you're involved and you should get involved right away so that way your whole High School career and I can help you with that other ways I can help you if I can help him bosses I can help you with your study habits and all the other are Avid teachers and I can help you get into college right because that's what we do that's why you're not right fun fact actually I'm a graduate of Florida High School Class of 2004 Google and actually graduated from Emerson way back in the year 2000 from super excited to get to know you guys and I'll see you soon alright then again you have graduated current senior that also is cheering a testimonial there along with the the average Brad and college recruiter I do play ladies and gentlemen. If you are if you choose to be in the college preparatory elective that is called Avid you can and we would highly encourage you to also pick up other electives so we have had students that have been an avid 4 years and in Bangor years they have been able to do four years of JROTC and four years of that bit all you need to do is make sure to start picking you don't make you sure that you plan with your counter for your summer school so that opens up your schedule so we have had soon as I have done you do multiple things that mister mister mohena is also the track Cross Country Coach and so you know that we work with you we would encourage you to get involved and that's it please make sure to take a look at those links and listen to the testimonials from those are different groups of students people Miss Fisher okay well Miss Fisher might not be here so we offered tons of music classes at Pomona High School it fulfills your Fine Arts requirement and it helps with college admissions so you if you've never been pick up an instrument and totally fine she can teach you how to do that awesome so like the video showed we offer classes and beginning classes if you have any questions about this just feel free to email me balk that would be us hi my name is and I am the Here Comes again. weather for Pomona High School and we have a lot of things in place for freshman I also have a few your counselors who are going to talk about what we do for our school hello I am a senior first year of your counselor and I just wanted to say that special part in Christmas Christian High School hello my name is Arlene I'm a sophomore and I'm also if your counselor and each freshman is assigned a peer counselor and is part of a group of 12 people and each of whom are guided through the first year of high school hey my name is Carmen Ayala and I'm a sophomore and I'm also a peer counselor and her counselor are trained in active listening skills basic counseling skills I have learned how to set up events Ximena Jimenez I love her any questions academic personal emotional you may have about on a high school you can ask any of your pro counselors on campus the best thing about a peer counselor is our Wellness Center located in roommate that's where most of your needs can be met hello my name is Marlene I'm a second-year pick up there and most of your needs can be met and roommate you can expect us a space listen to printer papers distress yourself meet new friends obviously 6 years apart or experience the wonderful Madness of your counseling . Counseling team Mister Murphy are you here Colonel Murphy are you here he might not be here cuz he might have class so Colonel Murphy is who runs the JROTC program over at Pomona High School it's a really awesome class I didn't the number one question that we get asked is oh my gosh I have to sign up for the military know there's no military obligation to be in JROTC it's really great for building self-esteem and that self-awareness gets you into a community setting like if you're not really into like team sports and this is a great way to create a team around you and sometimes of a community is a great way to make new friends too Ashley Park Richmond Miss nagler okay so a Pomona High School we also have a Visual Arts Pro and the teacher is Miss neighbor we offer a drawing painting sculpting a lot of our history our Theory it gives you a through G requirement for CAL States and use these you can earn elective credits by participating you can do four years of our or you can do one year of art is totally fine but you can take art throughout your entire time at PHS as well all right so we're going to be moving on to Athletics and activities coach Hudson you're on thank you very much my name is coach Hudson I Am the athletic director as well as the head football coach and his track and field coach at Pomona High School I've been here a long time that's all as a as a teacher coach and as a student who graduated from high school it was funny or mr. Elena Moussa Molina said way back in 2000 Emerson that was cute I graduated 1 - 97 add a graduation palomarez 1983 or something like that self and I went to Barfield Elementary for you guys that are out there that down a bar for as well so I'm up I'm on a native I've been here all my life and been a big part of a random last night Amazon My Life as a ball boy back in the day because Curry when he was a head football coach so it's one of those things like I said I've been in a long time a lot of our coaches are alumni do they come back and help out alumni come back and they want to see you get a giving our program our program like I said it's over 30 years old so I think the 12 Football Championship and that's how long our tradition is it goes back on long time we've been doing really well knowing the password in the project the last several years and I  near Monte League or football team is undefeated has not lost a game in the league you're no longer in that lie anymore basketball this was no longer leave we want to new championships in that league and our student-athletes are going on in the big big big big and great things not all the other field of sports but also outside of sports and had several that we're really proud of an organ play athletics we have let me go for low back pain before before we start getting into the specific dessert that we offer at Pomona High School on both sides baseball basketball cross country address for boys and girls football anyone can play with you truly have two young ladies that are playing football and are doing little one isn't actually her second year of playing football boys and girls soccer softball boys and girls tennis tracking boys and girls in wrestling as well so in order to participate in sports there is an academic requirement because we do stress that academics are important to us are very important to any party if you want to go on and play sports After High School then you're active must be on point and to go to play sports at Pomona High School you must maintain a minimum GPA to 2.0 game and that's the lowest that's what you'll be prior to strive for the best in j Baldwin atlin recruiters come in and they want students the worst thing to do is look at your transcript he wants your transcripts we want them to Be Wild by your transcript so again we stress the academic part of this because like I said next bike we've had a lot of student-athletes go on to bigger and better things probably one of the most famous when it's right there when we're number 82 on the screens Delanie Walker 14 year old veteran in the NFL he holds the camp with us every year Sugar Shane Mosley Luther High School be as well my Coastal laney-walker saying Abdullah and Tori Edwards was a gold medalist Olympic gold medalist and World Champion but like I said we're very proud of all of those people scream we found the ones who went on to do bigger butt things outside of the World sport the following did the video College and Raul just wanted to come Tennessee a few words to you but hi everyone my name is Raul Sanchez I'm a problem 1 High School alumni class of 1999 sports that I played mainly was football I also didn't play baseball freshman and sophomore year and towards the end it was just tripping football my Junior and senior years sling Sports Apple Moana High School allow me to grow as an individual to learn about myself it allow me to interact with individuals from all walks of life different races different ethnicities different environments different upbringing and it brought us all together in in a common place for a common goal in so now I able to interact with individuals from walk the lights go down my World Vision go from here to a broader perspective Swit allow me to interact with individuals I wouldn't have otherwise to be people I wouldn't have otherwise and opportunities that when I have ra it wasn't for sports I was fortunate enough to earn a football scholarship to go play at Sacramento State I'm enjoying my time up there go with Allah me to get up there was the discipline was the focus was the girl kids in the classroom and just as important as your athletic ability is just as important as not even more are your grades yes we all have grand visions of going NFL and going Major League Baseball and going in PA excetera often times it happens X is not so you need a back-up plan and your education is what's always going to carry you forward and allow me again to build discipline and allow me to understand that there's a process to think things are just going to happen overnight you're not just going Milwaukee best 300-pound there's a process to that and so that's life in itself is things don't happen overnight and so there's a process there's a discipline there's a focus you need your speaker and your peers you need the people around you to and those are the aspects that Sports allow me to do and understand about myself I currently serve as a counselor at Citrus College and and I attribute that to the beginning. Pomona High School if it wasn't for money to Sacramento State whatever happened cancel you wouldn't happen so I attributed to Pomona High School I am grateful forever indebted into the program into my teachers my classmates my peers I wish you all the best but just know that nobody's going to come and get him you got to go get it all the best go Pomona High School go Red Devils alright Google I would like I said he's always is very active still comes back with a lot of mushrooms you can want to Citrus College the interactive Road and help them out immensely going on and one of the things he said what's the process and things are going to happen overnight we have always dreamed I was a highly I'm highly recruited athlete I went to University California Berkeley on a football scholarship when I use the app are you the academic Park I used to take care of my parents are very grateful for that that's all like I said there's other was a lot of avenues and it's very important that I can get involved in school I get some leave this as what redirect that is that the more you involved in school the more fun it is okay in the more you put into it the more you going to get out of its okay so when you come to campus make sure you start asking questions and get involved stay involved and be active and we just can't wait to get you guys on campus to get you guys going hopefully this place up and we can start getting you guys in that for the contest but right now all of them are closed to the public we start playing football next week cross country is going on already so hopefully with rotavirus plays up we can get you guys on campus to get I want to get you involved in the Iran and Iraq Athletic program thank you oh man everyone my name is Raul Sanchez all right here we go activities welcome welcome class of 2025 I am mrs. Mitchell I am the ASB director for Pomona High School and you have heard so many great things every time we go over these kind of things I'm even more and more rash with the many things that we do that sometimes we forget about and we forget how great we are and we are the namesake of our great City of Pomona and we wear it well so we're excited have you come and be a future Red Devil and we have so many things to offer as far as the clubs and organizations academic as well as extracurricular on campus I know you keep hearing get involved get involved in a while but that is the best way to make your high school experience memorable as well as just be able to network and get all the skills who's that are sometimes outside of the classroom that you will need in order to go the route of being like Raul who just spoke just having those social skills which are very important so just like the fly says that our job is to plan school events ASB is where the party's at so if it's happening activities on our campus it's because this be has worked very hard to make it happen and they do work very hard and if I haven't said it lately ASB students who are with us and there are a lot I really really appreciate you which I do say all the time so we plan we plan Sports Rally's academic rallies we have inspirational videos to encourage students and we've gotten a lot better at that especially during this time of covid and we've been able to do things virtually we've learned so many things and when we come back we'll be able to combine those things to make sure that we stay connected and that you guys stay involved in every way you can I would like to hand it over right how to two of our ASP students just one more thing with ASP. Hello everyone my name is Jalen Cobb and I am busy person if you want to so meet you just want me to share with you all like my experience Pomona High these last few years so first I want to say that I start off at a 7 through 12th grade school and I decided that I want to go to former high school mostly the testimony tell me about the largest selection of AP classes I know I want to take them and also I cannot lie it's also because it has so many family members who went to Van high and you were there my freshman year look up do my cousins and my brother I'm start watching and it's been amazing ever since and I love all aspects of Timon high from the club so the sport and the classes are offered and in fact the classes I've been able to equal 3 + honors and courses since freshman year so every year of high school I've been able to have those classes and right now actually my favorite class is AP Statistics and like had I not been with component I would have never said that because I was it sounds like that's no that's not for me that's ugly likewise Master thing I was at person most definitely but then I came here in freshman year and I was like Oh no I got to take the CP class for math I can't do this but the ad and they push me the Spartan me motivated me and they're like no like you can take it so then I went to integrated math 1 honors with mr. Sanchez and it was amazing how maybe I can do it is not the heart and he implemented Binghamton is Carson's call Carson economy and it's like you're really learning, me and how like money or it's not just a mess ice fix the word problems how money works with Even After High School like the things you learned in that class it will definitely be able you know to be in plan to society and stuff and so I just employer you off I'm trying to hide you're going to have a great time and just lie as husband iterated participate as much and as many things as you can because it will make these days go by faster but also way more enjoyable thank you okay are you are hi my name is the freshman class president enjoyed this presentation it's just like a just a little bit of the experiences that you can get on the high a few tips just to help you with your freshman year make sure that you keep your grave cuz it's it's easy it's easier to keep your grades up then to pick them back up and make sure that you use all the resources that. Pomona Ohio thank you Manny so once again get used to the phrase go Red Devils see you guys next year thank you so much Miss Mitchell all right so what happens next I know we're running a little bit over on time I will get this I will go through this quickly so what happens next and we're going to register you guys so we're going to start working with your 8th grade counselors right now and get a Google going to get you registered for your classes for next year so do we you guys have the choice to pick her up elective you need to keep in mind that summer school registration is going to be coming up and will also be letting you know about that song again Imma Be A Google form and summer bull runs from June 3rd to July 2nd and classes are 7:45 to 2 you can take one whole class that would be like an academic year within 4 weeks so you get you pass a class do you get 10 credits in 4 weeks elective credit for Class Credit it just kind of depends on what you sign up for if you have any questions please feel free to email me I will go ahead and we formulated a digital version of what you saw here with all the hyperlink that we have also all the links to send me e-mail schedule appointment doesn't matter if I'm not your counselor right now I want to make sure that you guys are mentally prepared for your freshman year and I will do whatever I can to help you guys get there so please just email set up appointment contact your counselors if you don't get this information whatever maybe I want to go ahead and share the whole really quickly and so it looks like most of you guys are excited for high school which is really exciting because it is a very exciting time and I love that a majority of you guys are wanting to go to college After High School let's see where we at with being prepared all right so we're about kind of split their I'm feeling repair.
